Travelers by zypherax Travelers by zypherax

This is another interior illustration from The Pale City, I prototype book I recently created. Here we see a pair of travelers (A Lotharian named Vorkaa and his many attendants accompanied by their human companion, Trowin) traversing the barren wastes beyond the Sea of Sage in search of the Pale City.

“As they drew nearer to the city each day, the color was gradually bleached from the rock they trod upon, and the shrubs in the landscape around them grew twisted and sickly. Soon, there were none at all.
Despite the occasional hill they were forced to ascend, the land around them seemed to slope ever downward, and Trowin Imagined they were falling into the mouth of the world.”

young lotharians look like total dorks, but don't tell the adults I said that.
...
Wait, those are attendants?
So that in-bred look is intentional?
uh.... that's really weird and a little disturbing.

It looks even more wonderful in the book! The header on that site is very interesting by the way. Love the little creature skulls. What's in the tanks?

Thank you! the photograph shows my recently dismantled (to be partially ressurected on the other side of the country soon) studio and natural history collection. The terrariums housed a variety of locally collected mosses and Rhode Island native plants, while the aquarium was planted mainly with fissidens, pellia, and rotalla, and housed a very large population of cherry shrimp morphs!
